Power of Positive Playing
Published in Audio Cassette by Paone Pr (September, 1997)
Author: Frank Scoblete
Average review score:

In One Hour This Changed Me!
This tape was extraordinary. In one hour it showed me why I had been such a sucker for years. It is really interesting and Scoblete is a great speaker. His analysis of how the casinos operate, mathematically, monetarily and psychologically was a revelation. This tape is a must for all casino gamblers. It is far superior to the books by Jean Scott and others.

This Helped Me Immensely
This tape concerns exactly how casinos structure their games to get the edge but it also has the psychological elements that are used against us to make us lose our money and be happy about it. Scoblete is a dynamic speaker and this tape is worth getting and listening to over and over again. It puts you in the proper frame of mind to take on the casinos. I think all gamblers would benefit from getting this tape. It has helped me immensely.

A Great Motivational Tape to Help YOU Win
In one hour, Frank Scoblete tells you everything you need to know to understand how the casinos use math, psychology and their enormous bankrolls to beat the average player. This is a great tape that makes you think.

This is an answer TO prayer.
"The POWER OF PRAYER TO HEAL AND TRANSFORM YOUR LIFE is a glorious reafirmation of the Truth about prayer. Yet it does much more than simply announce that prayer works. It tells HOW and WHY. A masterful mixture of anecdotal references, latest research findings, real-life experiences, teachings from the Masters, and personal insights, this is a DEEPLY MOVING, WONDERFULLY INSPIRING book. And, Sherry Hansen Steiger, who has given it to us, ...well, an answer to a prayer."

A book for everyone.
Author Sherry Hansen Steiger has once again offered an inspiring compilation of anecdotes and spiritual instruction designed to enlighten the reader and expand his comprehension of the power of prayer. Hansen Steiger, a licensed and ordained minister, has experienced Divine power in her own life and does not hesitate to include her personal struggles and answered prayers, thereby allowing the reader to strongly identify. Modern science increasingly agrees that the power of prayer is more than just a spiritual exercise. This author expands the traditional view of prayer beyond the scope of an activity for the traditionally religious and opens the door of understanding for anyone who desires to add another dimension to his life. I highly recommend it for everyone who looks at modern society and wonders how he can survive.

fabulous book!
This book helped me with some difficulties I've had about prayer and God --in general. Neale Donald Walsh was right about this book, "it's really wonderful" and it was an answer to my own prayers!!!

The Power of Pride: Stylemakers and Rulebreakers of the Harlem Renaissance
Published in Hardcover by Crown Pub (November, 1999)
Authors: Carole Marks and Diana Edkins
Average review score:

Engaging and stimulating
This book is fantastic and a source of pride! I studied this period in undergrad. and I love to read anything I can find on the Harlem Renaissance. The book is beautifully done, the photos are great and the choices are interesting. Wondered why the authors placed Bill Robinson in the DC section, but the bios are concise and complete. A great book for young people as well as students of the period.

Fantastic
As a student of the printed word, I've always been fascinated by the Harlem Renaissance, or the "RenGen" (Renaissance Generation). This book is wonderful to me because it offers information and faces to match the personalities with which I'd found myself identifying with throughout most of my life. It is very uplifting and encouraging to read about such a group of classy, glamorous, educated, eloquent, literate, ambitious, and talented young individuals. Even though a few of their ideals were somewhat disturbing (mainly the whole "paper-bag test" mentality), this book was still thoroughly refreshing. With its wonderful photographs and biographical information, it is a plethora of information in sepia. Today's writers should emulate the literary (prosaic and poetic) elegance and grace of Johnson, Fauset, Larsen, Hurston, Hughes, and others, instead of seemingly automatically gravitating towards a written genre that seems to stress nothing but profanity and over-(overt) sexuality in the African American community. How I wish those days of class could come back to our literary community! Perhaps one day it will.

To know the history of American culture, read this!
Marks' and Edkins' book is an elegant portrayal of the lives of those who created the Harlem Renaissance. Beautifully illustrated with historical photographs--most rarely seen, this book should be read by anyone wanting to know about the evolution of American culture. The authors' narrative reveals the strength and creativity of these African American women and men whose energy and talent has given the nation some of its richest cultural forms. They show how they grappled with questions of racial identity in a highly segregated society and how their relationships with each other fostered one of the most important cultural movements in the nation. Anyone wanting to know more about American history , its cultural institutions, and the legacy of racial prejudice should read this book and show it to their children.

The power of psycho-pictography; the cosmic key to the inner mind
Published in Unknown Binding by A. Thomas ()
Author: Vernon Linwood Howard
Average review score:

It's available again!
Marvelous news: this amazing book, a book with the power to spark an entirely new process in your life - the process of self-transformation - is back in print! You can get it at a reasonable price under a new title, "Secrets for Higher Success". Discovering this book was one of the turning points of my life; what an adventure it began. Are you weary of it all? The same old patterns, the same old lies - everything always the same? Do you feel, deep down, that nothing you have tried has ever really worked? This noble book contains something truly different for you. Get it, read it with an earnest heart - and give your life just one more chance to change.

This book changed my life forever..
I had the opportunity to get a copy of this book through a mail order offer of a course that taught me how to make money with stock options. I guess the guy bought the rights to the book or something, but I consider this book the only thing good I got out of that deal, and it was worth a million dollars. I don't think I paid anything for this book, and I'll never sell. I classify this book up there with Napoleon Hill, Dennis Waitely, W. Clement Stone, Dale Carnegie, Zig Ziglar, and the like.

BUT - this book is so unlike any other I have ever read. It completely changed my life. It helped me to understand that how we look at life is EVERYTHING and will determine everything about how it "turns out". Our perceptions are so powerful and can easily become distorted. You'll read each sentence twice, because each one is such a deep, spiritual insight. You'll never find another writer like Vernon Howard. Absolutely amazing! If this would allow me to, I would rate this one with 20 stars!

A must have for Vernon Howard fans
Vernon Howard's books present the clearest and most astonishing exposition of timeless spiritual truths I have yet encountered. They certainly aren't for everybody, but if you're one of those who, like myself, were so fortunate as to stumble across one of his books, open it up, and immediately have the sense, "this is something different, this is exactly what my spirit needs," then read on. The present title has been out of print for years and isn't even mentioned on the official VH website. The reason I know about it is that, on a friend's recommendation, I happened to order the 'course' that you will find advertised in Ken Roberts' book, "The Rich Man's Secret". That 'course' cost me about $100 and, apart from the Vernon Howard book, there isn't a whole lot to it (just my personal opinion). Why am I telling you this? Because that one book has been priceless to me. I have most all of VH's books and this one is my very favorite. It is a classic; so powerful, and yet so gentle at the same time. I've lent my copy to several friends and each has (independently) agreed that there is something unique about this particular book, even when compared to Howard's wonderful other works.

The unusual quality of Vernon Howard's spiritual writing needs to be experienced to be believed. As I said, it isn't for everybody; but to readers who already know its value, I say: you owe it to yourself to get this book, it is pure gold. Don't get me wrong: I absolutely do not think you should have to pay $100 to get it. Quite the opposite, I think it's a terrible shame that it isn't as widely available as the rest of Howard's work, and the marketing shenanigans surrounding the way in which it *is* currently available are not to my taste at all (again, just my opinion). If you don't already know and love Vernon Howard, it would make no sense to pay this much -- start instead with one of his many other books, like "Pathways to Perfect Living". I'm just writing this review to make other Vernon Howard readers aware that they do have the option of obtaining this strangely "lost" title, and that, for me at least, it has proven to be worth many times more than what I had to pay to get it.

The Power of Statistical Thinking: Improving Industrial Processes (Engineering Process Improvement Series)
Published in Hardcover by Prentice Hall PTR (30 November, 1995)
Authors: Mary G. Leitnaker, Richard D. Sanders, Cheryl Hild, and Mary G. Keubajer
Average review score:

Very good book by actual users of the methods they discuss
This is an excellent book. The three authors (Leitnaker, Sanders and Hild) actually use the methods they discuss. They provide a careful conceptual and philosophical discussion of process study and improvement using control charts and related tools.

The emphasis is NOT on covering a large number of tools (for that, other books might be more appropriate) but instead on enabling the statistically unsophisticated user to understand how to actually USE the methods.

The authors use case studies extensively in the book to motivate the methods and to illustrate their use.

Highly recommended. It might not be the ONLY book on "SPC" which you should buy, but if you buy any books on SPC, this book should be one of them.

Bill Parr

Thoughtful -- written for real engineers
You don't have to be a statistician to be able to use this book. Gives practical talk on use of statistics using thought processes any engineer can relate to. Buy this one.

Hey look! a good statistics book and no complex integrals!
Coming from three academians this book is suprisingly practical. I recommend it to anyone who is in manufacturing and wants to utilize SPC charts in quality improvement and Engineering Process Control (EPC). What makes this book unique is that the authors acomplished to explain SPC applications to both attributes data and variables data without any complex formulas. That is a very distinct importance if you are in a process industry such as chemical, food, paper, cement, etc. where you measure temperature, pressure, PH, level and color rather than the dimensions of a part for compliance and also where you may not have subgroups but just samples. Most other books I have read dealt with attributes data for parts industries exclusively. This book includes many advise and examples for managers and engineers. Definetely a must for engineers and quality professionals who have been out of school for a while and realizing the importance of the SPC and EPC in a competitive market. A prerequisite for Six sigma white(!) belts too, but may be too simplistic for experienced practicians. If you are an engineer, after reading this book buy a copy of "Statistical Control by Monitoring and Feedback Adjustment" by George Box and Alberto Luceno (available at Amazon.com) and don't forget to send a thank you note to authors of both books.

The Power of the Blood of Jesus
Published in Paperback by Whitaker House (September, 1993)
Author: Andrew Murray
Average review score:

Enlightening and Empowering
Until reading this book I did not believe in pleading the blood of Jesus. I guess I thought to do so would be tantamont to engaging in a practice that was nothing short of evil. You are thought to fear the sight of blood as it represents likely death, black magic or doom.

Having read and having experienced an outpouring of the blood of Jesus in my life and that of my family I am indeed enlightened and empowered. Today I boldly claim the gifts, blessings and mercy that God has promised and have bestowed onto me. Today, I can claim my rightful inheritance as a child of the king of Kings.

The author does a wonderful job introducing the subject matter and in confirming its biblical autenticity from the Old Testement to the new Testement age. He removes the veils and misconceptions surrounding the practice and the need to plead the blood of Jesus on ourselves, our family, our possessions and even our vehicles and pets. This book is a "must have" for all believers in the Almighty GOD and the gift of deliverence and salvation through Christ.

The Power of the Blood
I can't say enough good about this book; it is literally the book I have been waiting and praying for, for a great number of years now. If you are at all lacking in faith, this book will turn it all around for you. The pastor who wrote this book (H.A. Maxwell Whyte, now deceased, the book out of print I was told)was Benny Hinn's pastor as a young man, and this book was one which was highly recommended by him on his TV show. You will not be dissapointed by this book if you are a believer of God and a follower of Jesus Christ.

The Centrality of the Blood of Jesus
In a day when the blood of Jesus is being removed from the very translation of the Bible itself, when the mention of the blood of Jesus is considered offensive even in the churches, this book and Murray's other, "The Blood of the Cross," are God-sends for those who are willing to accept the ways of God without cringing. Though the blood of Jesus is not in any way magical, it is nonetheless crucial and foundational to receiving ANY benefit whatsoever from God. If one could list all the spiritual blessings in the heavenlies in Christ Jesus (Eph. 1:3), and then search out the sole reason why these benefits are available to born-again Christians, and only to born-again Christians, they would find that every single one without exception is only available because of the shed blood of Christ. Murray clearly shows this truth in his books and mentions over a hundred benefits (between the 2 books) that are only available by Jesus Christ's shed blood. If you want to get back to true biblical Christianity, you must get back to the centrality of the precious blood of Jesus. Otherwise, you have no source of heavenly, spiritual, benefits from God, inlcuding salvation itself. Hebrews says, "Without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sin." Murray shows clearly that within that statement is included ALL the resulting benefits of forgiveness, as well.

Inspirational guidance through everyday life
During a time of great need I purchased "The Power of the Cross". I got more than I bargained for. This book opened my eyes and my heart to address the internal struggle that had been so prevalent in my spiritual life. I found the scriptual references to be quite helpful and appropriate within the context of the subject. I have given this book to 2 friends and have received positive comments and appreciation from both of them. It is a wonderful gift.

The most powerful devotional I have ever experienced.
No matter how weary you may be, how discouraged, how bruised by life and its problems, The Power of the Cross can truly impact your daily life and spiritual growth. Charles Stanley's reflections on the Bible verses in this book of prayers are meant for anyone, regardless of what stage of spirituality you are in, and no matter what is going on at any particular moment in your life. The Power of Vastu Living: Welcoming Your Soul into Your Home and Workplace

Author: Kathleen Cox
Average review score:

Almost as good as a personal consulting
I took a 7 week long (2hours a week) workshop with the author and read this book during the workshop and after. The book is almost like having Kathy inside your home to figure out how to make Vastu work for you! It's amazing the changes that have occured within my roommate and my sense of ease now that my house is vastu perfected :) I even began to bring it into the workplace and the changes were amazing. Before I left my job I took my meditation belongings home and the energy around me and throughout my small workplace immediately became less friendly. If you feel like you're looking for something and you're constantly running away from your apartment read this book! It will help you recognize exactly how to make your home a sanctuary for yourself, animals, family, and even roommates! Not to mention guests.

Best Book on Vastu!!!
I practice yoga--seriously. I just heard about vastu and bought this book after someone told me it was the best book to read on this ancient science. I enjoyed it immensely and found it so logical to follow and understand. I've started to re-organize much of my apartment. Already, it looks so much nicer and really does make me feel much more comfortable and calm. I highly recommend this book to everyone--especially people who do yoga--the two go together for sure.

Who knew if could be so simple to change your life?
Who knew you could change your life so much by simply moving your bed or computer? I couldn't recommend a better book to learn how to improve your health, your job, even your romantic life. Forget all those male/female books that try getting you to color your hair or spend crazy amounts of time at coffee shops. This book lets you know the most significant changes come from within.

The Power of Vision
Published in Paperback by Regal Books (May, 2003)
Author: George Barna
Average review score:

Need Vision- Read this book
This book is an invaluable addition to any pastor's library. Though brief, it gives a concise and pragmatic look at what vision is and how to implement it. Barna chips away at our misconceptions concerning vision and argues persuasively that it is the one indispensable ingredient for a growing church. Pastors who have a well-defined vision and who are able to articulate it to their congregations grow their churches, those without it do not.

The book's greatest strength is Barna's lucid style. I appreciate his way of dealing with each objection that is raised to vision he destroys each with irrepressible logic. Barna disarms the reader whose preconceptions about vision would have torpedoed anything he was trying to communicate.

But the book's greatest strength is also its greatest weakness; it left me hungering for more. Although I can understand why he wants us to go to extraordinary lengths to "know yourself" (pg. 80 ff) the series of forty-one essay questions that each pastor should ask himself is a little much. It would take an extraordinary person not to become lost in the process before discovering the end.

The book gave me hope. I have always known that the reason one church grows and another does not is because of pastoral leadership, rather than congregational indifference. What I did not know was why. Was it merely that some pastors have a natural charisma that others do not? Or was it something more fundamental, namely vision? It also helped me overcome the old "enabler" model of leadership I was taught in seminary. Vision comes from an inspired pastor and then "trickles down" from the top and not from committee consensus. It is an outstanding book.

must-read, must have for everyone, especially ministers
Of the thousands of books written on the subject, Barna's is at the very top of the pack. This book powerfully, succintly, grippingly presents what a vision is, where it comes from, how to capture it, how to apply it, how to deal with myths and vision killers, and much more. If you want to be an effective minister, or an effective, purpose-filled human being, read this book, then read it again. Every seminary and every Church ought to present this book as a gift to graduating students or at ordination. The vision comes from the Lord, the resources come from the Lord it is impoosible to fail.

This is the best work I have read on the subject of vision.
To this point the, The Power of Vision is the best work I have read on the subject of vision for ministry. Barna does an outstanding job of defining vision and explaining its importance. Along the way he gives many valuable insights concerning the crafting and casting of vision for ministry.
